Chicago, IL — Democratic candidate for state representative David Schroeder issued the following statement regarding Representative Ken Dunkin’s vote yesterday against repealing the 1% sales tax increase in Cook County (HB4625):
“Ken Dunkin’s vote against repealing the Cook County sales tax increase is just another example of Dunkin putting his political pals before people. The sales tax increase, which a majority of Cook County Commissioners voted to repeal, was too big to begin with and simply encouraged continued waste and bloat in the Cook County bureaucracy. Before we ask people to pay higher taxes, I believe we must take a good hard look at whether we are good stewards of the people’s money. Dunkin apparently believes otherwise. This is why we have the highest sales tax in the nation in the 5th District.”
