A Note from David on the 2009 Citizen Action Dinner
I was very pleased to attend Citizen Action’s 2009 annual dinner on September 25th. A pleasant surprise was running into my childhood minister, Gene Winkler, who gave the invocation. I had great conversations with Alderman Joe Moore, Cook County Clerk David Orr and Lt. Governor candidate Mike Boland at the pre-dinner reception.
The theme of the night was health care reform. Bill McNary gave a real stem winding speech that had the crowd on its feet several times. Gov. Quinn was then honored with the Lerner-Egan Distinguished Service Award and also spoke about health care reform. Given the enthusiasm of the crowd for a strong public option, it was disappointing to learn that the US Senate Finance Committee rejected a public option being in the health care bill before it. I was the only candidate for the 5th House District present and was introduced by Mr. McNary from the podium.
I’d really like to thank the members of the Chicago Federation of Musicians and the City Lights Orchestra for providing great music all night. The staff at the Hilton, members of Unite Here, provided great service as well.
